I started this song a few days before everything shut down for Covid-19. It was hard to do anything creative beyond my regular teaching as we transitioned to an online environment. Creating content, connecting, zooming, and just the daily barrage of information made the desire to write and play dry up.
A couple of weeks in, I found myself sitting with my song journal and began playing chords and singing to fit the words I had started (just the first 2 lines of the song). It wasn't long after that that a completed song emerged.
I dedicate this song to my wife Angie, there is no one I would rather be quarantined with.
lyrics
The sun rises over the field. The clouds make shapes and we point them out. I laugh, you laugh, we're alive
The moon is full and the city's singin'. We're watching cars go by.
I smile, you smile, we're alive.
When life is hard I remember this. The simple things we've got.
My hand holding yours and our fingers interlocked.
There's no way I'll ever forget the first butterflies from your touch.
Still catching my breath
Still catching my breath
The waves break upon the shore, searching for stones to take home.
I look, you look, we're alive
Upon the Earth we plant our feet, feeling the roots go down.
I know, you know, we're alive
When life is hard I remember this. The simple things we've got.
My hand holding yours and our fingers interlocked.
There's no way I'll ever forget the first butterflies from your touch.
Still catching my breath
Still catching my breath
From the pitter patter of little feet, to the stillness of the empty nest
I'm yours, you're mine, we're alive
When life is hard I remember this. The simple things we've got.
My hand holding yours and our fingers interlocked.
There's no way I'll ever forget the first butterflies from your touch.
Still catching my breath
Still catching my breath

I am an Alternative Folk Artist whose songs engage the listener to feel and think deeply, to find the reverence in everyday life, and to question the stories that define so much of the modern world...more
